Plans Established For the Stanley-Boyd Archery In The Schools Program

Posted

Coach Brandy Pecha and husband Tyler, attended the Stanley Sportsman’s Club meeting last week and displayed bows, arrows, and targets recently purchased by the club.

Stanley-Boyd Archery in the Schools Program now has a Facebook informational page available to the public.  According to Pecha, the program currently has ninety High and Middle School students signed up for participation.  Pecha said, the program currently has forty bows and twenty targets.  “Due to higher numbers of participants than I expected, I’m looking at applying for additional available grant money to purchase more equipment”, she said.

Practice for the program will begin the week of December 4th.  Practices will take place provided enough bows are available.  High School students will practice shooting at 6:15-7:00 a.m. and Middle School students will shoot at 7:00-7:45 a.m.

Tournaments will begin January 20, 2024 and go through March 23rd which culminates with the State Tournament.  Area tournaments take place almost every weekend.  Tournaments will be offered to all students and they can sign up for those they want to participate in.  Students are not required to attend and participate in all tournaments.  However, students will be responsible for their own entry fee to participate in tournaments, which usually costs $10-15.

Pecha said she is working on obtaining jerseys from Chippewa Valley Sporting Goods.   She anticipates prices to be approximately $35 or less.  Outside donations to the program could also help defray costs for jerseys.

According to Pecha, plans are in progress to host a tournament and family meal on March 9, 2024.  “This will provide a great opportunity for parents, family, and community members to witness what our students are doing in this new program”, she said.

Although coaching is not new to Brandy or her husband Tyler, this is their first time creating an actual Archery in the Schools Program.  “So please feel free to reach out if anyone has ideas on how to improve the organization”, she said.  Anyone interested in helping out with coaching or offering assistance with this new program, please contact Brandy Pecha at 715-644-8613.
