Stanley-Boyd varsity golfers off to good start for season

It’s finally warm out, and with that said, it’s golf season.
Taking to the front nine at Whispering Pines this past week, the Stanley-Boyd varsity golfers came away with fourth place, having led the pack at Medford April 18.
Individual golf scores for Whispering Pines were Carsen Woodcock 49, Carson Oemig 52, Landen Fredrickson 53, Logan Dorn 54, and Ryan Starck 61. Orioles head golf coach Devon Wenndt shared his thoughts on how the season has gone thus far after score cards were in.
“I’m proud of the way our boys have played in some pretty harsh conditions so far this year,” he said. “We were able to get off to a great start with wins at our first two Cloverbelt East matches (Black River Golf Course in Medford and Meadowview Golf Course in Owen). Our boys didn’t have their best stuff at Whispering Pines last Thursday, but we’re hoping to get back on track after a very busy week (54 holes in 4 days). It seems as though a different player is stepping up each day, which is fantastic for building that internal motivation...everyone always wants to be the #1 guy. The team’s goal for this season was always to win the East. About half of our conference play is still ahead of us, and we’re in OK shape with regards to that goal. Time to put in the work and bring it to the finish line.”
The Orioles varsity golfers next compete Thursday May 2 at Northern Bay Golf Course. Start time is 9 a.m.
