The Stanley Area Historical Society will be celebrating the area’s Polish Heritage with a variety of activities on Sunday, September 20. Unfortunately, the event will be limited in numbers due to space considerations and thus only people with Polish ancestry are able to be invited. The museum, located at 228 Helegerson Street in Stanley, will open at 11 a.m. and upon arrival, guests will be treated to concertina music provided by Walter Wartolec and Alex Kulesa. Those attending will be required to bring a dish to pass (Polish foods preferred). Meats, potatoes, salads and desserts are needed for the potluck meal that will begin at 12 noon. Following the meal, the program will include several Polish language songs, and participants will then be asked to share a story of their family members immigration to the United States. Why did they leave the homeland (Poland or Ukraine) Where did they land in America? What work did they do upon arrival? How is it that they came to the Stanley, Thorp, Lublin, Gilman or Owen-Withee area? To assure your seating, please RSVP at 715-644-5880. If no one answers, leave your name and telephone number and you will receive a call back.
