There may not be a ‘Situation Room’ per se for humble village cabinets like Boyd’s, but the lack of international intrigue and skullduggery doesn’t mean the local government scene is unimportant—to the contrary. In the first place, there are property assessments to consider.
Nobody will be here,” President Bob Geist said of the upcoming Board of Review meeting Tuesday June 8th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the Board of Review only busy when steep tax increases were in view, June 8th isn’t expected to draw all that much attention. That said, the meeting wasn’t over.
With President Geist calling the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m., Clerk Sandi Isaacs did roll call.
“Quorum is established,” Geist said of the regular board meeting, following upon which Trustee Gwen Krizan made a motion to approve the agenda as presented, seconded by Casey Dorn.
The motion to approve the agenda then passed, followed with a remark from Streets and Utilities man Tom Grunewald.
“I don’t know if this should be brought up in public comment,” he said, but there had been a recent issue with campers having flat tires left on village streets, the ordinance stipulating that 72 hours was the deadline to have these issues dealt with. Trustee Krizan next brought up the issue of vehicles in yards without license plates in the village.
“I told them to come voice their concerns,” she said of village residents who brought the issue to her attention, adding, “Some just don’t want to.” Grunewald continued on with the issue of campers, saying that having them sit on streets was a bad thing, as a kid darting out into traffic wouldn’t be seen. Trustee Sarah McQuillan and Trustee Krizan then motioned and seconded to approve the minutes, cuing a response from President Geist.
“Sandi, will you read the roll please?” he said, the motion passing unanimously. Trustee Krizan and Trustee Dorn then motioned and seconded to approve the financial reports, which was done in due course.
Opting to wait on agenda items 7 and 8 related to sewer bond refunding and AMKO Advisors as the presenter was not then present, the Village Board moved on to Discussion and acting on purchase of a new sampler at the sewer plant, being update by Grunewald.
“My sampler at the sewer plant went out,” he said of an outside measuring device that was 16 years old. Calling a local refrigeration company and learning that they couldn’t fix it, “I then called Bob and got a price,” he said of the measuring instrument priced for replacement at $7,766.
The sewer plant sampler was approved, with talk of a plant tour by the Board settling on Tuesday May 25th at 6:00 p.m. for the walk-through, an earlier suggestion of May 18 not quite working out.
“That’s my anniversary,” one board member related, such that the tour on said date wasn’t ideal—May 25th it is!
Also touched on at Monday’s meeting was a request by Broadway Boutique in Stanley to use the stage at Lotz Park for a fashion show, a request the board decided not to grant, due to precedent.
“It’s the policy of the park that the picnic tables don’t leave the village,” President Geist made known, with the principle applying to the stage as well.
“My gut’s saying no on this one,” Trustee Krizan said in agreement with Geist.
From there it was into department reports, with Streets and Utilities man Grunewald reporting that there would be minor street work soon.
“They’re making cold mix,” he said of a type of asphalt used for paving and distinct from “hot mix in the way it’s made. Before long, the AMKO Advisor was there.
The Boyd Village Board met this past Monday with President Bob Geist presiding in the chair.
