As to the reported driver, a citation filed October 7 on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website for a violation October 1 (the day of the crash) lists 26-year-old Bryce James Winchell of Eau Claire as charged with violating 344.62(1) of the Wisconsin statutes, operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Family and friends of Newill at the crash site Monday October 4 stated that “Bryce Winchell” was the driver of the vehicle involved in the car vs. bus crash.
Though a court appearance is not mandatory for the charge of operating a motor vehicle without insurance, Winchell does face a fine for the alleged infraction, or just over $200.
