The last month has been full of events for RC flight, all over the nation! Wisconsin has hosted numerous events, and in July, I shared about an event I went to in Dorchester. On Saturday, September 12th, I ended up in Shawano where the Shawano RC Flyers held an open house event.
One of the highlights of the event was watching an effective teacher at work! Mike Carson of Wausau helped teach a couple of boys get their first ever flights in! (See Picture) We also got to see another young man be gifted his first ever airplane and transmitter! There were a lot of great flights, all of which went without issue.
I also got to meet Dave Scott from 1st US Flight School in Shawano! He is a huge supporter of the RC Flying hobby, and is part of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and their Foundation, helping support and grow the hobby. He has programs to teach basic flight, aerobatics, drones, and even takes the winter months to travel and train while traveling! He is also a regular author of articles for some of the more prominent sources of media in the hobby.
Before I left, Mike Carson had me stop for a photo with him! I am on the left, Mr. Carson middle, and John is on the right. The whole crew out there was a ton of fun to hang out with! Howard, John, Marilyn, Anne, Dan, and more! The people really made it a lot of fun, as well as seeing new pilots getting their first flights. I think I’m going to be making an effort to go on a “field trip” and go see them a couple times a year now!
