Staff Report

The Oriole football team played its first game Saturday on the new Eau Claire Regis athletic field and couldn’t overcome a 14point first quarter from the Ramblers. Regis won the Cloverbelt Conference battle, 31-13.

Stanley-Boyd was held scoreless in the first half and went into the intermission down 21-0.

The Orioles got on the scoreboard in the third quarter on a 26-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carsen Hause to Mike Karlen. Karlen connected on the extra point.

Late in the game, Karlen ran in from two yards out for the final Oriole score. The two-point conversion run was stopped short.

It was Stanley-Boyd’s first loss of the year, and they fall to 2-1 in the Cloverbelt. Regis is tied for first place in the new-look football Cloverbelt with Durand.

Hause had a big day but the Orioles couldn’t get enough points on the board. He connected on 25-28 passes for 235 yards and no interceptions.

Cooper Nichols caught eight of those passes for 98 yards, and Karlen caught seven for 83 yards. Lucas Smith caught four passes, while Jake Nesterick caught three, Brady Potaczek two and Landon Karlen one.

Nesterick led the way for the Orioles out of the backfield, rushing six times for 63 yards. Nichols picked up 29 yards rushing, while Potaczek had 25 and Karlen had 12.

Stanley-Boyd had 364 yards of total offense and Regis had 423, including 359 yards on the ground. The Ramblers had four rushing touchdowns.

The Orioles host 1-2 Elk Mound Friday night at Oriole Park.
