The long-running argument between which is better—Ford, Chevy, Dodge or
GMC-is about to get another hearing,
as the Stanley Truck and Tractor Pull is set to get underway Saturday June 12 at 7 p.m., down at Chapman Park. Leave those disparaging acronyms at home— this is sportsman's li.e fair play! Only the
best, will win. With the track now plowed
and made ready for competition, here's a
rundown of how things will go down this upcoming Saturday, June 12.
In the .rst place, blue granite will
be placed along the north side of the Community Center this week, with the nearby building itself ready for the City to move in on Thursday and Friday—just in time for the goings on this weekend.
Among the different pulling classes sponsored this year are the 2.5 Diesel 4 x 4 by Haas Sons Inc; the Open Diesel 4 X 4 by Chilson Automotive; the Superstock 4 X 4 by Thorp Equipment; the Altered Stock 4 X 4 Truck, sponsored by Lube Suppliers; the Light Limited Super Stock Tractor sponsored by Stanley Tire; the Limited Prostock Smokers class sponsored by Gerrit's Construction, and the Hot Farm
class, sponsored by Westaby Trucking.
Puller registration is from 4 to 6 p.m. on the day of competition, while admission for fans is just $10, with those under 10 years of age getting in FREE.
Although they've come a long way in
their more than a century of existence, tractor pulls began in the 19th century with farmers arguing whose horses were stronger. Means were resorted to at county
fairs, with modern day pulls facilitated by a drag weight rather than people jumping
on doors pulled by each farmer's horses (as originally happened).
But while both technology and horsepower have come a long way in the intervening time, the fun is still as fresh as ever. Why not come out to the Truck Pull Saturday June 12th at Chapman Par.?
It'll be smo.ing!
