Since 2013 when he started his senior year as the football team manager, Robert Ferrier has been an important part of the Stanley-Boyd Orioles team. Ferrier’s dedication and commitment have earned him respect with the coaching staff, team, and the community. His journey shows a passion for football and an unwavering loyalty to the Orioles.
Some of Ferrier’s duties as manager include preparing for games by assisting with team readiness and transporting the water but possibly his most important role is fostering team spirit and enthusiasm, a job that he takes very seriously. Ferrier’s ability to boost team morale and his focus on maintaining a positive atmosphere have been crucial to the team’s achievements. To get the players fired up for games, Ferrier says he gives them a pregame speech. “I tell them to stay focused,” he says. Orioles quarterback Carter Isenberger commented on Ferrier’s influence on the team.
“Robert is our hype man. He’s always helping clean up after practice and is great at making sure everyone has water on Fridays. He manages all of the equipment making sure we’re ready for practice and games. He really is an essential part of the Stanley-Boyd football team and an asset to our season.”
Ferrier shared that a memorable experience in his career as team manager was during his first year as manager when the Orioles won the conference title on October 18th, 2013, in Carson Park. Braxton Thompson, high school English teacher and current member of the Orioles football coaching staff, recalls being a freshman on the football team when Ferrier began his first year as team manager.
“From then to now, Robert has been one of the best people to have on the sideline with our team. He brings so much life and energy to the team, that he would be impossible to replace.” Thompson shares that when he returned as a teacher at Stanley-Boyd he was happy to see Ferrier was still a team manager. He commented that Ferrier keeps the team in line on Friday nights and brings humor to regular practices. “He does so much for us as coaches and for our students as players, that we never have to worry about anything related to equipment because he always has everything ready to go. Stanley-Boyd football wouldn’t be the same without Robert!” says Thompson.
Head Coach Jeff Koenig has been a major influence on Ferrier, particularly in teaching him conference guidelines. “Robert has contributed a lot to the football team. He has seen the program’s highs and lows and continues to dedicate a lot of volunteer time. The work of a manager goes unnoticed by many but is greatly appreciated by everyone within our program,” remarked Head Coach Jeff Koenig.
As the Stanley-Boyd Orioles clinched a win against the Cadott Hornets on Friday night, Ferrier celebrated another victory by achieving his one hundredth win as team manager for the Orioles. When asked how he felt after the one hundredth win, Ferrier stated, “It was great!” He added that he did expect the win and when the team joined in his celebration on the field at the end of the game, “It was excellent!” The victory was celebrated with enthusiasm by players and coaches, while Ferrier, a longtime WWE fan, was given a commemorative team belt personalized with his name and the name of the team.
Robert Ferrier’s 100th win is more than just a number; it represents years of commitment, determination, and reliability.
“Hard work pays off,” Ferrier commented, offering advice to anyone interested in becoming a team manager. For Ferrier, his own hard work did pay off. His commitment to the team and his passion for the game ensure that he will remain a driving force for the Orioles. As the Orioles continue to grow and build, Ferrier’s contributions will remain an important element in their story.
