A ‘roller coaster day.’ That’s how Orioles head girls golf coach Devon Wenndt described Regional competition at Pheasant Hills Sept. 28. With the third to ninth place teams all within roughly 15 shots of each other, the golf “was showing its teeth,” Wenndt said. On the ball in the first 9, the Orioles came up short on the back 9, ending the season as such. Senior Emme Felmlee
shot a 98, good enough to advance to the Section at Hidden Gems in Solon Springs. Felmlee was also a four-time Sectional qual- ifier over her high school golf career. “There’s not an overabundance of high school golfers who can put that on their resume,” Wenndt said.
As to the team as a whole, Wenndt said he was proud of how the girls had battled through. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to coach these girls, many of them for four years now,” he said. “I’ve watched them grow, struggle, overcome, and anything and everything in between. I’m sad to see the season end. For many of these young ladies it’s on to bigger and better things. I’m sure all of them would say, however, that they are happy they invested the time into this team and are better off for it. Learning a lifelong sport is never a bad thing.”
