Ponick, who played football and baseball at Stanley-Boyd, attended UW-Eau Claire for a year but then chose to attend UW-Whitewater according to his college bio in part “for the opportunity to continue playing football while earning a degree.” Former coach and Stanley-Boyd district superintendent Jeff Koenig shared his thoughts on Ponick’s achievement.

“He’s a great kid,” Koenig said. “He was part of our teams a number of years ago and he’s a great kid to have on there,” referring to Ponick’s most recent achievement. Prior to being named to the 1st Team list, Ponick made the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll in 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Now a junior in college, Ponick is a running back and team captain for the UW-Whitewater Warhawks, with seasons highs this year including 41 rushing yards against Carthage on September 4 and one rushing touchdown against Greenville from November 20. Ponick’s other accomplishments on the field include 14 rushing yards against Platteville, 13 against Berry, and 17 against Wisconsin Eau Claire. Most of Ponick’s game play has been this year, as 2018 and 2019 saw him play a total of three games over two years.

Returning off the field to the academic sphere, Ponick is a Communications major, whose favorite professional sports team is the Green Bay Packers and favorite TV show Sports Center.
