Friday win brings welcome win after a long string of losses this season

Facing off against Osseo-Fairchild at Ori –

ole Park Friday, the Orioles came away victo – rious, the final score 42 – 28 in Stanley-Boyd ‘s favor. With much of the momentum set in the first half and the Orioles putting 22 points on the board to zero for the Thunder, the team was able to keep the lead growing, with head coach Jeff Koenig sharing some thoughts af ter the game.

“I thought the team played with better intensity this week,” he said of the team’s performance. “They also did a better job of keeping their feet moving on contact.”

Starting out in the first quarter, the Ori oles came out the of the gate running, with Landon Hoel fielding a punt followed with a field goal by Simon Polman at 5:49 left in the first quarter.

Come the return of ball possession by the Orioles after a brief interlude from the Thunder, Landon Karlen took the catch for a touchdown with the conversion good as well, bringing the 11-0 in the Orioles favor.

Following another turn around Landon Hoel ran downfield with the punt and broke the plane of the end zone, before a whistle and a flag meant starting back over where it began.

In spite of setbacks like these, the Orioles defense did their job, while quarterback Car – ter Isenberger faked a pass, then ran upfield for a gain.

About this time Simon Polman made a field kick to bring the score 14-0 Orioles, while JJ Heller later took the ball to the 21- yard line following a punt by the Thunder, followed with a touchdown and successful two point conversion to bring the score 22-0 at the half. From there on out, the game was Stanley’s, while the Thunder failed to make up their point deficit, the game ending 42-28 in the Orioles favor.

The Orioles next face off against Neills- ville/Granton at home this Friday, the kickoff set for 7 p.m.
