Baseball and softball infields to get new fill, better drainage for next season
Winter may be still to come, but looking ahead to spring thaw the Stanley-Boyd School Board approved infield work for Ori – ole Park at its Oct. 24 meeting, motion made by Chad Verbeten and seconded by Bob Geist. The field work with base bid of $33,000 per field will see Hutchinson Property Services of Sturgeon Bay remove the current lime patch on the baseball and softball infields, replacing this with 200 tons of Quickpitch red and com – pacting same, along with removal of a minor lip on the back infield and replacement of the infield green. Prior to this bid, Hutchinson will till the site and regrade existing material to remove weeds, laser grading each site and installing new base anchors along with home plate and pitching rubber. Verbeten shared his thoughts after the vote.
"We been getting a lot of complaints," he said. "We have to do something."
The Sun reflects off water at the Oriole Park girls softball field this weekend after a night of rain. The infields of both baseball and softball will be getting replaced for better drainage and safety.
