Stanley-Boyd students competed in the Skills USA competition at Menomonie on Friday, Feb. 27. A total of 10 students from Stanley-Boyd competed with peers from 40 other schools, with subjects ranging across multiple trade, medical, and robotics related disciplines. Opening ceremonies for the two day meet took place Thursday at 8:30 a.m, with Stanley-Boyd Skills USA advisor Sam Goettl sharing more on how things went.
“On February 27th 2026, five students involved in Technical Education courses demonstrated their skills and knowledge through “hands-on” competitions at the UW-Stout Regional SkillsUSA contest,” Goettl said. “Dayne Trunkel competed in “Related Technical Math” which consisted of a written test that measured content related to industry mathematics. We had Porter Goettl and Brady Birky compete in the “CO2 Dragster” competition where they raced their dragsters against other competitors. Our last team consisted of Dylan Klisiewicz, Caleb Westrom, and Gunnar Goettl who competed in the “Carpentry” area and captured second place. This was a great experience for our students to be involved in and I look forward to seeing what next year brings.”
Those placing at the Menomonie completion will now have the opportunity to advance to the 53rd annual Wisconsin Skills USA State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC) in Madison on Tuesday April 7 and Wednesday, April 8. Those who qualify at Madison will be invited to represent the state at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, scheduled from June 1 to 5 this year.
Founded in 1973, Wisconsin Skills USA includes a total of 166 high school and middle school chapters across the state.
