The Stanley Community Association (SCA) is once again hosting its annual Light up the City Light Competition, inviting Stanley residents and businesses to showcase their holiday spirit with spectacular light displays. The competition offers a fun and festive way to brighten up the community during the holiday season. Once submitted, the light displays will be featured on Facebook, along with a photo and address, for residents to vote on. Entry is free, with no cost to participate, but light display photos must be submitted prior to the judging date in order to be included for online voting.
The voting period runs from December 13th to December 17th, with the winner announced on December 20th. Residential prizes include: first place - $100 cash and a yard sign; second place - $50 cash; and third place - $25 cash. The first-place prize for businesses is a window poster to display as the winner.
Prior to the event, a map and list of participating addresses will be released to the public. For privacy, no names will be included—only the addresses of the competing displays will be shared. This list will allow community members to drive around, enjoy the festive displays, and vote for their favorite light show. The competition is focused on exterior lights and decorations, but decorations visible through windows from the outside are also eligible. Judging will be based on “curb appeal,” meaning only decorations located on the street-facing side of the property will be considered. For homes on corner lots, both street-facing sides will be judged.
The SCA is grateful to the local businesses and residents who have already signed up to participate and encourages others to join in the fun. For those who may need assistance in capturing their display photo, SCA members are available to help. Simply reach out to an SCA representative for assistance. To sign up, head over to the SCA’s Facebook page where you will find the registration link.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the stunning displays throughout the community and participate in voting to help choose the winners! It’s the perfect family-friendly activity—grab some hot cocoa and drive around town, creating lasting memories as you enjoy the festive displays!
