The latest bimonthly report is in for streets and grounds.
Stanley Streets and Grounds Foreman Joe Schmitt updated the council on work done and planned.
Starting with the basics, Schmitt reported “filled potholes” and “weekly trash pickup” as well as “picked up several roadkill throughout city” among tasks completed. Also included in work done was necessary street sign repair, curbside brush pickup, mowing operations, and removing trees and brush caught up in the dam Schmitt reported that he had mowed the police department shooting range and that he had cleared all trees and brush from the driveway. The drainpipe behind the bandstand at Chapman Park had been dug up and repaired with help from Montana and Sons, while the alleys between First and Second Avenue as well as between Lincoln and Garfield had been cleared.
Also among items included in streets and grounds since last meeting were mowing of the disc golf course, prepping the campground with reservation cards and mowing for the upcoming weekend as well as communicating with campers, and moving the library book drop to the fire station parking lot. Schmitt shared additionally that he had picked up elk feed and worked with Luke from Hogsback Ranch on process on the elk, attended the recent Wisconsin Rural Water Association (WRWA) Outdoor Expo, and trimmed the entire fire station parking lot to clear weeds, troubleshot an engine light on the F350 (resulting from a faulty O2 sensor), and had construction related meetings for Maple Street and West Business Park Road.
Last but not least, he had mowed and cleaned up the cemetery.
As for wok planned at streets and grounds Schmitt listed Elk herd management, starting of wall building for the salt and sand storage shed, building a five year plan for equipment, and grading of 345th after the next rain, among other items. Schmitt further reported continued mowing and pothole work, maintaining buildings for upcoming rentals, fixing the storm drain on Eighth and Kennedy, making necessary sidewalk and crosswalk repair, and working on restoring the 240V electric to the tennis court bathrooms.
Among issues still to be addressed for streets and ground are figuring out a plan to fix alleyways throughout the city, as well as a note that citizens mowing their grass onto the road made it hard to keep streets clean if it keeps happening each week.
With monthly safety training planned in the next 60 days, Schmitt closed out his report by noting that paving was set for Lincoln, Park, and Sixth Avenue for September and drawing council attention to a street sweeper quote.
