Meeting Monday April 22 in regular session, the Stanley-Boyd Area Schools Board of Education undertook much regular business. First, however, there was organization to attend to. With April election returning members Chad Verbeten and Ryan Lewallen, it was time for the board to choose its officers.
Come the end of voting. all but one post was filled by the same person, Becky Peterson replacing Toni Seidl as Treasurer. Seidl arrived late and was not present for either nomination or voting.
The night’s nominations meanwhile started with administrative assistant Renee Mahal asking for nominations to board president.
“I nominate Denise Hoffstatter for board president,” Lanse Carlson said.
“Are there any other nominations?” Mahal said to silence. Nominations closed and a vote taken, the gavel was transferred by Mahal to Hoffstatter, who took over proceedings as president, that is, the one who presides.
Next on the election agenda was board secretary, effectively the minutes keeper and vote taker.
“I nominate Renee Mahal as board secretary,” Bob Geist said of the administrative assistant. There being no other nominations a vote was taken; Mahal being reelected as board secretary. From there, it was on to vice president, the one to preside in case of the absence of the board president.
“I nominate Bob Geist for vice president,” Lewallen said.
“Are there any other nominations?” Hoffstatter asked to silence. Nominations closed and a vote taken, Geist was re-elected vice president, thereby designated to run the meetings in Hoffstatter’s absence. Next up was board clerk, the meeting agenda poster and vote canvasser, the latter unless requiring a substitute due to being on the ballot, as happened this year.
“I nominate Ryan Lewallen for board clerk,” Geist said, there being no other nominations. A vote taken, Lewallen was re-elected as board clerk. One more post remained.
“I nominate Becky Peterson for board treasurer,” Lewallen said. The vote taken, Peterson was elected board treasurer.
And with that, the board moved on, taking up agenda item 3.0, Effective Curriculum and instruction.
