School commits to $160,000 in bike trail improvements

Stanley-Boyd Schools is making a contribution to area bike trail plans.
More specifically, they’re making a $160,000 commitment to trail improvements, made over five years to the school district’s trail network.
“The city is asking us to make a commitment to upgrade our trail over the next five years,” District Superintendent Jeff Koenig told the board. The upgrades are being made as part of larger bike trail plans for Stanley and will see asphalt and culverts on the trail from the pavilion to the main parking lot. Part of the route includes where rock was laid down but will also include the trail from the parking lot to Oriole Park. The school is also spending money on trail and flashing safety beacons at Franklin Street and Fourth Avenue.
The larger bike trail as planned extends from the school down Fourth Avenue to Emery Street, turning west at First Avenue through Soo Line Park before turning north along an old rail line west of McKnight and then west again towards Chapman Park.
Motion to approve the school trail improvements as presented was made by Board Member Bob Geist and seconded by Board Member Toni Seidl.
Also from January school board, spring sports are in view. The board approved coach listings in the consent agenda, including Ryan Sturm as head coach for boys baseball with Jeff Trunkel as assistant coach, Devon Wenndt as boys golf head coach with Larry Norrell as assistant, and Bob Seidl as head track coach, assisted by Travis Schindler, Braxton Thompson, and Joan Verbeten.
