The new fiscal year started July 1, and that means budgeting!
Don’t look so excited.
As to local education but still awaiting a budget hearing Monday Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. to be official, the current year’s school levy calls for a levy rate of $6.55 per $1,000 property value. That would be a full $1.33 up from the levy last year, with additional state aid per pupil in this year’s state budget expected to kick in next year and bring the levy back down, the district allotted $11,000 per student from Madison under the new allowance per pupil, in place of the current $10,000 per student.
With state aide determined in turn by enrollment numbers (enrollment times state aid per student equals funding), Stanley-Boyd stood at 1,066 students as of the third Friday in September, or 1,037.7 for full-time equivalent (FTE).
This in turn represents a drop of 30 net students and 34 FTE from the year previous. With the official head count also requiring the district to verify students that are open enrolled—both in and out—the numbers show 20 less students open enrolling out compared with last year.
As to the current year’s funding, the district is expecting $8,384,086 in equalized general state aid, the school budget hearing Oct. 23 at 8:00 p.m. in the high school library to set this year’s levy for local funding. A budget summary appears to the left of this article.
