Silver Rose Pilgrimage comes to Holy Family

Posted

The Knights of Columbus recently brought the Silver Rose Pilgrimage to Holy Family , part of a pilgrimage tradition started in 1960 to pay homage to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Appearing to Juan Diego in 1531 and held instrumental in the conversion of Mexico, the story of the Virgin’s appearance is told in the Nican Mopohua, written in Nahautl, the indigenous language. The story includes Diego finding Castilian roses not native to Mexico and bringing them to the bishop as proof of the apparition’s authenticity. The Silver Rose will now make its way with seven other roses from across America to the Shrine of the Virgin of Gaudalupe on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City. An image of the Virgin of Guadalupe is framed in the narthex at Holy Family, brought back from Mexico in 2016. Catholic men interested in joining the Knights of Columbus can contact their local council or learn more at www.kofc.org.
