Snow Parking to go into effect November 15

Staff report

Some like snow and others don’t, but if you currently park your transportation on Stanley streets overnight, consider this to be your first and only warning. As of this Sunday, November 15 and continuing onward through April 1, 2021, vehicles that are found parked on city streets within the City of Stanley between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. stand to receive a not-quite-free orange dashboard ticket envelope, used to help keep the roads open in case a surprise snowstorm dumps a load of cold white stuff on local roads overnight, thereby triggering a “snow emergency” for which fines are easier than waking the whole neighborhood for plowing needs.

For those wishing to avoid the orange envelope and keep their roads passable this year in the midst of winter it’s a good idea to find somewhere else to store those wheels than the street. Meanwhile and related to the annual snow reminder is another: keep those sidewalks clear, or the city can charge you money for doing so, per city ordinance. The details are in a recent reminder from the Stanley Police Department.

“Per city ordinance, the owner/occupant of a property shall keep any sidewalk adjacent to the property clear of snow and ice within 24 hours of an accumulating event. Failure to do so will result in city personnel removing said accumulation. When this occurs, the property owner will be billed each time said removal is conducted at a minimum rate of one-hour ($50) per occurrence. Only one written warning will be issued to the property owner if a violation is observed. Accumulation resulting in subsequent events after a warning has been issued may be removed by city personnel without further notice and will be billed accordingly.”

Keep those sidewalks clear, and calcium chloride salt close by, in case of ice. It’s blizzard season soon!
