If you’re looking to get out and about for spring, you’re not alone.
With snow still on the field and a softball game scheduled for March 24 against Elk Mound cancelled, the Lady Orioles will start the season with a 5 p.m. game on March 31 against Durand-Arkansaw, at home. Orioles head coach shared some of her background and what fans can expect as the softball season prepares to get underway.
“I was a softball player, however not for Stanley,” she said. “I grew up in Elk Mound and played there through high school. Softball has been a part of my life every Spring since I was eight years old. The second I was done playing, I started coaching youth leagues. Even when taking the break from varsity, I was coaching my daughters 8U team. To me, Spring means softball!” Having assisted Kim Goettl starting in 2011 through 2015, Mahr took over as head coach in 2016 and remained so through 2019. Now taking back over from Tyler Wagner after the position again became open, Mahr is assisted by Bridgett Brenner,
“Fans can expect a lot more wins this season,” she said. “The girls are ready and hungry for a winning season. It has only been a few days of practice so far, but they are working hard and correcting small things that are going to make a big difference. We have almost everyone returning, which means varsity experience is under our belts!”
The season kicks off Friday, March 31, pending the arrival of spring.
