Softball varsity ends season against Aquinas

Playing against Aquinas Wednesday, Amy 22 at Aquinas, the Oriole varsity softball team fell 3-13, ending the season for this year with a 7-14 record overall. Orioles head softball coach Andrea Mahr shared her thoughts after results were in.
“We only had one strike out against Aquinas,” Mahr said. “We came out of the gate hitting, but we just didn’t find the gaps. They had some really great plays that took away some hits from us as well, especially from their right fielder and shortstop. We also capitalized on their errors, which resulted in some of our runs.”
Saying that next year would be exciting as almost the entire team is returning with a year experience, Mahr shared on what the team needed to do moving forward.
“Next year is exciting because we have almost the entire team returning and all the girls will have a year of varsity experience under their belts,” she said. “I have a lot of great hitters, but we couldn’t consistently count on hits getting in the gaps this year. I don’t think we had enough variety in our hitting lineup. Next year, I am hoping to have some left side hitters with more versatility. Hitters that can put down the bunt or have a hard hit through the infield. I think that will put more pressure on the teams we play. Pressure leads to errors and errors lead to runs. So next year, that is my goal, to bring more versatility to the plate and to be less predictable.”
