The next statewide election will soon be here. Arriving Tuesday, April 7, the chance to weigh in on candidates for city, village, and county board.
Chippewa County Deputy Clerk Amanda Richardson shared more Friday.
In-person absentees start two week before the election on March 24, with voters able to request absentee ballots now to be mailed when clerks get the ballots.
Write-ins must be registered to be counted if there are candidates on the ballot for the race they are running in. If there is nobody running in a race all write-ins are counted. The last day to register to be a write-in this year is April 3, otherwise the Friday before the election.
So who’s on the ballot this spring?
Starting with Stanley, Wards 1 and 8 Alderperson Ben Wald is the official registered candidate for mayor in Stanley, incumbent Mike Henke stating “I didn’t run last time either” when asked about filing earlier this year. Seats are otherwise being sought by their incumbents generally, with Mark Fitzsimmons running for Wards 1 and 8, Therese Metzger for Ward 3, and Aaron Dickson for Wards 4 to 7 and 9.
Morgan Marek has declared a write-in candidacy in Ward 2.
As for the Village of Boyd, incumbent Trustee Josh Walters will be the only name on the ballot, Trustee Casey Dorn not returning nomination papers by the filing deadline.
Turning to School board, it’s all incumbents for registered candidates, Denise Hoffstatter running for Area 2 comprising Delmar, Colburn, and Taft, Bob Geist running for Area 3 comprised of the Village of Boyd, and Toni Seidl running for Area 4, defined as the City of Stanley. Candidates must live in the areas they represent, while anyone in the district can cast a vote for them.
