The Stanley Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its final Coffee & Commerce of the year with a special stop at LaGrander’s Hillside Dairy in Stanley. October’s gathering gave local business owners a behind-the-scenes look at one of the community’s most iconic family-owned businesses.
Host Ryan LaGrander welcomed attendees and shared fascinating insights about the art and science of cheesemaking. He proudly explained how the dairy’s products are truly rooted in the community: “Our milk that we use to make our cheese is sourced from local farms within 20 miles of our plant.” LaGrander also highlighted partnerships with well-known brands like Culver’s, demonstrating how local farms and businesses help supply nationwide demand.
Ryan shared his personal journey to becoming a Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker and reflected on the family tradition started by his grandfather and carried on by his father. “It’s not just cheese, it’s heritage,” he said.
After the discussion, attendees enjoyed a guided tour through key areas of the plant, including the packaging line, cheese curd salting machines, and the newly added walk-in cooler and freezer. For many local business owners, it was an eye-opening—and appetizing—experience. As one participant remarked, “I learned a lot today, I never knew how much went into this whole process!”
The Stanley Area Chamber of Commerce thanks LaGrander’s Hillside Dairy for opening their doors and sharing their story. This final Coffee & Commerce of 2025 was the perfect way to melt together community connections, local business pride, and, of course, Wisconsin cheese.
