The Stanley-Boyd Middle and High School Archery Teams are working hard and catching on quickly in their first year as a team coached by Stanley-Boyd Middle School Teacher Brandy Pecha and her husband, Tyler. On January 20th forty Stanley-Boyd students traveled to John Muir Middle School in Wausau to compete as a Middle School and High School team. Over 500 archers including some from Cadott, Gilman and Marshfield attended the annual tournament.
Stanley-Boyd Archery Coach Brandy Pecha shares that each archery student shot eight rounds of five arrows including a practice round at 10 meters, 3 rounds at 10 meters, a practice round at 15 meters, and 3 rounds at 15 meters where they were scored out of 300. The Stanley-Boyd High School Archery Team finished 9th out of 10 with a score of 2825. The Stanley-Boyd Middle School Archery Team finished 10th out of 10 with a score of 2754.
On January 27th the Archery team attended the Thorp Cardinal Shootout where the Stanley-Boyd Middle School Archery Team finished 5th out of 7 with a score of 2730 and the High School Archery Team finished 6th out of 7 with a score of 2837.
Pecha says, “Students have really focused on their aim over the last few weeks, and we have seen so much improvement in all shooters. Several of our archers have never held a bow, let alone shoot for competition. We are extremely proud of all of these students and can't wait to see where the season takes us.”
On March 9th Stanley-Boyd School will host an Archery Tournament from 12pm to 3pm. Community members are welcome to attend and get a first-hand look at what is included with the Stanley-Boyd Archery program.
