Stanley-Boyd Champion Lidya Sturm brings home the gold!

Ninth grade Stanley-Boyd student Lidya Sturm brought home the gold after participating in the 2023 Special Olympics State Bowling Tournament in Weston on December 2nd and 3rd. The tournament, held at Dale’s Weston Lanes, saw over 350 bowlers participate from across the state. Lidya first competed in regionals by bowling with her Cloverbelt Special Olympics Team every Wednesday at Tom’s Stanley Bar and Bowl beginning in September. The weekly scores were then submitted to the state officials in November and those who qualified were able to travel to Wausau for the State Bowling Tournament the first weekend in December. Lidya’s best score of the season was 102!
Lidya, daughter of Stanley residents, Nick and Erica Sturm, plans to continue competing in the Special Olympics State Bowling Tournament every year and explained that her favorite part of the tournament was having her uncle assist her in bowling because “he is a very good bowler.” As a girl of many talents, Lidya has also participated in the Miracle League Baseball Team for the past five years and was previously on the Stanley-Boyd Middle School track team for two years before choosing to focus on bowling.
Lidya is very proud of her Special Olympics State Bowling accomplishment and when asked how she felt after winning gold, she answered, “Good. Just call me the Champion!” Congratulations, Lidya!
