Fall colors are starting to appear in the area, and cross country is underway at Stanley-Boyd. Competing Thursday at Stanley-Boyd followed with a Saturday competition at Colby. Participants at the Stanley-Boyd Thursday race included runners from several area schools including Thorp, Owen-Withee, and Cadott, while the Colby contest had runners from Owen-Withee, Loyal, and Columbus Catholic, among others.
As to the Orioles, head cross country coach Nick Mahr said the Oriole cross country team ran well.
“The kids ran well,” he said Monday. “Our home race is small and early in the season but our top boys ran really well compared to some of their rivals that they’ll see throughout the season. Freshman Lucy Wundrow had a great showing in the girls race. On Saturday we were in Colby. We didn’t expect to run great times having raced on Thursday and a lot of the kids staying up late Friday night at the homecoming dance but Lucas Walker had a great time of 17:12. Colby hosts the sectional race so we wanted to scout the course as much as anything else.”
The Orioles compete next this Friday at River Edge Golf Course at Marshfield. Competition starts at 7:30 p.m
