The Wizard of Oz is coming to Stanley.
Arriving October 15, and continuing the 18th and 19th, the classic Disney tale comes to Stanley-Boyd High School Wednesday Oct. 15, followed by Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19.
Showtimes on Wednesday and Saturday will be 7 p.m. with Sunday’s performance at 1:30 p.m. Presale tickets for the show are $8 for students and $12 for adults, with ticket prices increasing to $10 for kids and $15 for adults at the door.
Based on the novel by L. Frank Baum first published in May 1900, the tale centers on Dorothy, who with her dog Toto (played by a live dog) sets out for Oz on the Yellow Brick Road, after a tornado whisks her from home to Munchkinland.
Stanley-Boyd Drama Club Advisor Kayleigh Steinmetz shared more on the story’s plot.
“The Wizard of Oz is about a young girl who is swept away in a tornado after getting into a fight with her family,” she said. “She is trying to defend her dog Toto from the terrible Mrs. Gulch. When she wakes up after the tornado, she is in Munchkinland, and she sets off on a journey to find the Great and Powerful Oz. She meets the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion along the way. Along with Glinda the Good Witch, they help her find her way back home. There are some slight differences from the movie, but it sticks pretty closely to the same ideas.”
Dorothy is played by Bea Bluhm, the Lion is played by Gunnar Goettl, the Tin Man is played by Chloe Isenberger, the Scarecrow is played by Alexis Baughman, and Toto is played by Enzo Milliren.
