Forty Stanley-Boyd students, ranging from 5th to 8th grade, participated in the school’s 28th annual Spelling Bee held in the elementary gym on January 17th. The exciting event was hosted by Stanley-Boyd Teacher and Head Wrestling Coach Jake Fitzsimmons, with teachers Nancy Liebzeit and Ali Hermann serving as judges, and Adam Helmsing moderating.
The 90-minute competition saw students tackle numerous rounds of challenging words, with the final five participants—Aiden Kaiser (8th grade), Logan Stuttgen (7th grade), Seth Lilla (8th grade), Kendall Knox (5th grade), and Aubrey Stuttgen (6th grade)—facing off for the championship. After several tense rounds, the competition narrowed down to two remaining contestants: Aiden Kaiser and Logan Stuttgen. Logan ultimately triumphed, spelling the final word correctly to be crowned the 2025 Stanley-Boyd Spelling Champion.
This victory was especially sweet for Logan, who had placed second in the 2024 Spelling Bee, after losing to 8th grader Mason Vait.
“I’m really glad that my hard work paid off,” Logan exclaimed, reflecting on the hours of study that led to his win.
The top three spellers—Logan, Aiden, and Seth—will represent Stanley-Boyd at the Regional Spelling Bee at the CESA 10 Conference Center on January 29th. From there the top five spellers will travel to Madison for the State Spelling Bee at the Mitby Theater on March 29th.
Congratulations to all the participants, and best of luck to the top spellers as they continue to represent Stanley-Boyd at the regional and state levels!
