Stanley-Boyd JAG students take 5th place at Nationals!

On April 18-20th Stanley-Boyd JAG students, Senior Delani Mercier, Sophomore Alissa Messing and Sophomore Adeline Peterson, attended the JAG Nationals in St. Louis, Missouri where the JAG students placed fifth out of fifty competing teams in the Project Based Learning Competition. “For this competition the team had to share about a PBL (Project Based Learning) project they did in their school or in their community this year,” JAG Advisor Jessica Gumness explains. She said that the girls gave a 5–7-minute presentation about their project to the judges where everyone on the team gets to talk a bit, and together, show how their PBL made learning awesome and real community impact. She describes the project, “The students created a Virtual Escape room lesson centered around students obtaining an understanding for the career development and career preparation JAG competencies. The students would give a prompt and find the prop in the escape room and click on that prop which would lead the learner to completing an activity. The activities they had to complete in the virtual escape room included resume building, interest inventories, and blank job application.”
While at Nationals, the students had an opportunity to network with employers, attend workshops and vote on new student national representatives. But it wasn’t all work and no play. Gumness mentions that Mercier, Messing, and Peterson also experienced the city by attending the St. Louis Zoo and the St. Louis Cardinals vs Milwaukee Brewers Game! Congratulations JAG students!
