Landon Karlen, wing-back for the Stanley-Boyd Orioles, accomplished a personal record at the October 27th game against Northwestern by rushing a total of 1000 yards. This was the last game of Karlen’s high school career and a goal that he is excited to have fulfilled. Karlen mentioned that he was so focused on the game that he didn’t even realize he had made his goal.
“Accomplishing my 1000 season was one of the best feelings in the world. When I hit the yardage in the game I didn’t even notice because I wasn’t thinking of my own personal accomplishments. I was too busy having fun with all of my family on the field with me and enjoying the moment play by play,” he remarked.
Karlen, who was named 2023 Cloverbelt All-Conference Running Back Recipient, dedicated his last football season to his Grandma Debbie Karlen. He shared his thoughts behind his decision. “I dedicated my season to my grandmother because she’s always been there for me, trying to make it to every game she can or being one of the first people to hug me after my games, telling me, ‘Grandpa would be proud of you, Petey.’” He explained, “She’s always been on the positive side of life even after my grandfather’s passing. She would always put all of her love and effort into her grandkids. She taught me to try and always keep my head up and that’s why I dedicated my season to her.”
