The Stanley-Boyd School District will observe Veteran's Day on Thursday November 11 with a luncheon in the High School Stage, held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. All veterans are invited, with the stated wish to RSVP by November 9th for those planning to attend.

The Veteran's Day observance will feature a meet and greet with Grades K to 5 from Noon to 1 p.m., followed with an assembly in the high school gym of grades 6 through 12 scheduled to last from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Veteran's Day as a November holiday began in the aftermath of World War I, also called “The Great War” prior to World War II and coming to a ceasefire on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour, or November 11, 1918. A formal treat known as the Treaty of Versailles was later signed in Versailles, France on June 28, 1919.

Originally called Armistice Day, the name of the November 11 holiday was officially changed to Veteran's Day in 1954, after the much-worse Second World War required mass mobilization. This followed November 11 becoming a legal holiday in 1938, per www.va.gov.
