Stanley-Boyd takes lessons from Eau Claire Invitational

Heading to the Eau Claire North Husky Invitational Saturday, Dec. 10, the Oriole varsity wrestling team came away placed 16th of 33 teams with 114.0 total team points. Coach Greg Burzynski shared more on the event after results were in.

“We go to the Eau Claire North tournament because of the level of competition and the variety of teams we see there,” he said. “Bi-State is the only other tournament where we see teams of this quality all in one place. We had 4 top-ten finishers: Justin was 10th, Troy was 9th, and Breckin and Willy were 7th. We continue to have ups and downs as a team.”

Continuing on the same theme, Burzynski highlighted the chance to meet state-ranked wrestlers at Eau Claire as among the reasons for attending.

“We had the opportunity to wrestle some state-ranked wrestlers,” he said. “Breckin wrestled three and Troy and Willy each wrestled one. It is nice to get that level of competition so close to home.”

Closing out remarks by saying that the coaching staff had noticed issues to clean up, Burzynski said it was still early in the season.

“We as a coaching staff noticed some issues in certain positions that we need to clean up. It is still early in the season. We will continue to work to improve on our deficiencies and close out matches,” he said.
