The Orioles hosted their home meet Thursday, Sept. 11, coming away with several medals. The Oriole boys varsity team placed sixth overall with an average time of 21:13 and score of 155, while the girls varsity placed second as a team with average time of 23:55 and a score of 65. The Stanley-Boyd middle school boys team placed second with an average time of 14:01 and a score of 578, while the middle school girls team placed fourth with an average tie of 15:59 and a score of 86.
In individual high school results from Thursday, meanwhile, Oriole freshman John Smit finished in sixth for the high school boys with a time of 18:10.14, while sophomore Haylee Shakal finished fifth in the high school girls race with a time of 22:126. Sophomore Mariah Wehling took eighth with a time of 22:25.99, while junior Lucy Wundrow finished in eleventh place for the high school girls race with a time of 23:23.09.
As for individual middle school boys who finished in the top ten, these included Thomas Smit, Michael Toepfer, and Zander Kelly. Smit took seventh with a time of 13:45.58, Toepfer took eighth with a time of 13:48.4, and Kelly took ninth with a time of 13:49.93.
As for individual middle school girls results in the top ten, Aaliyah Prissel took fourth with a time of 14:04.84.
Orioles Head Cross Country Coach Nick Mahr summed things up after the results were in.
“It was a nice day for running,” he said. “Our girls performed as good as we could have hoped for. Mariah and Lucy made big improvements from their times from the first two races of this year. That’s exciting to see. Our girls are a very good team and keep getting better. The boys were without junior Elihu Krenzelok who was out with an injury. Not as many personal bests for the boys this week but it was pretty hot at the start of their race so it’s understandable. They are young and working hard so I expect to see their best times dropping a lot soon.”
