Backup date of May 7 in case of inclement weather

A spring followup to the initial cleanup carried out after the December’s tornado will be held April 23rd, with a backup date of May 7 in case of inclement weather.

This will be a multi-organiza- tion, run by volunteers, euort to clean up and dispose of the yard debris (branches, leaves, etc.) left by the tornado.

The amount of work completed will all depend on the number of volunteers who will be in attendance and the amount of work that needs to be done. It cannot be guaranteed that all requests will be fulfilled. Stumps cannot be re moved, trees that could fall on any surrounding structures will not be cut down, landscaping will not be

completed unless certified companies are on hand and willing to do that for you.

Any small branches and brush or grass clippings can be taken to the recycling center on W 4th Ave. This is the brush pile on the south side of Highway O/W 4th Ave across from Chapman Park. If you are physically able to remove your own debris or help your family, friends, or neighbors, please do so. Anyone who is able to move debris, but has no way to haul it is encouraged to bring debris to the roadside for pick up.

Due to a high volume of requests for help, we will need to make those areas hit most directly by the tornado and the house- holds with physical limitations our first priorities. Items that need to be taken to the landfill, such as shingles and building debris, can also be taken to the city dump. There will be a designated pile for these items. This does not include furniture, appliances, or other large items that are not storm related. If unable to bring in on your own, please have the items placed by the curb and the volunteers will try to get them removed.

Volunteers – anyone can help with the cleanup. Minors should have adult supervision. Please report to the Community Building in Chapman Park to sign in and get directions. We will start at 8am and go until dark or until we are done with all requests for help. Volunteers need not be there by 8am and they do not have to stay the entire time. Any help is appreciated. Please bring your own tools (rakes, shovels, gloves, saws, trucks/trailers, etc.) Volunteers and homeowners must understand that this is at their own risk. Volunteers and organizations will not be responsible for damage to property or injury that may result.
