Stanley Community Association Serves Up Free Community Dinner

Last Chance for Bingo and BBQ Fun

On Wednesday, April 17, the Stanley Community Association (SCA) brought neighbors together with warmth and hospitality during a free community dinner held at Full Gospel Mission Church. Community members were treated to a hearty and delicious meal that included salads, ham, cheesy potatoes, green beans, rolls and a variety of desserts. In addition to the sit-down gathering, many meals were also prepared and delivered as carry outs, ensuring that even those who couldn’t attend were still able to enjoy a home-cooked dinner.
SCA members volunteered their time to cook and serve the food and connect with guests, continuing their mission of supporting the Stanley community. Organizer Mayda Smith shared that the free dinner event draws a diverse mix of attendees—including individuals, singles, couples, and families.
“It’s a great way to share time with one another,” Smith said. “I don’t think that the food is the important thing. I think it’s that people are getting out and making connections-sharing lives with people.”
She added, “It’s really nice to see people, everybody coming in and having that fellowship together and talking and finding common interests.”
Smith acknowledged that the group is currently seeking individuals or organizations to help host future meals, as more support is needed to keep the gatherings going. She expressed appreciation for those who have already stepped up, especially the local churches who’ve contributed.
“I think it’s really great if all of the Churches come together and they are working for a common cause and common good. That’s how it’s supposed to be-that’s how the Lord wants it.”
The next meal—set for Thursday, April 24—will be the last of the season, wrapping up a series of weekly dinners that typically run from November through the end of April.
For those interested in volunteering or helping host future dinners at Full Gospel Mission Church when the season resumes, the SCA encourages reaching out to Mayda Smith at 715-703-3474 and getting involved.
The fun doesn’t stop there! The SCA is also inviting everyone to their final bingo event of the year at the Chapman Park Community Center during the upcoming Spring Into Stanley event organized by Dean Tinjum and presented by the VFW Post 2711 and the Stanley Lions on Saturday, April 26th. Bingo will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. while some of the top BBQ teams will be competing at the Smoke and Fire BBQ Contest. This will be the last BINGO event of the year, and they’re closing out in style with new cards offering three games per sheet—still just a $1 suggested donation. Also kicking off at the event is a raffle for two one-day tickets to Hoofbeat, the country music festival held in Cadott, Wisconsin. The winner will get to choose which day to attend, and parking is included. Entries are $10 each, and the winner will be announced on June 7.
Come for the fun, food, and community spirit—there’s something for everyone!
