Meeting on Monday, March 9, at Debbie’s on Broadway, the Lions made plans for their participation in a major new event to be held on Saturday, April 25 at Chapman Park. The event, "Smoke and Fire," will be a co-sponsored with the Stanley-Boyd FFA and FFA Alumni. The center piece of the event will be a Kansas City Bar-B-Que contest with 24 teams, from across the Mid-West, competing for cash prizes. Among the activities will be DJ music, rib dinners will be available, a Bush's Bean Contest and a major auction conducted by the Stanley-Boyd FFA Alumni. More specific information will be available nearer the event.
The February 9, District Governor's Meeting, hosted this year by the Boyd Lions, was reviewed. The Boyd Lions were great hosts and the visitation included the Governor's messages from the International Lions President and his own. President Laurie Foster noted that the District Governor handed out the following longevity awards to the following Stanley Lions during his visitation: Wayne Hove - 40 years, Gary Krueger - 35 years, Dan Plombon -15 years , Luke Clow -15 years and Jim Gunelson - 10years.
In announcements, the District Convention will be held on March 27-28 at the St. Croix Casino in Danbury. No one volunteered to attend this year. The Stanley Lions will again be furnishing a basket of Stanley products for the silent auction held in conjunction with the Convention. Lions John McLoone and Jim Jones agreed to represent the Lions Club at a forthcoming meeting of non-profits, to renegotiate continued use of the Stanley Community Center with the City of Stanley.
The recent work of the Activity Committee and the Governance Committees were discussed. It was voted to discontinue the Clubs participation in the Stanley Trunk-or-Treat event and the Brat Supper/Bingo at the Moon Park Apartments. It was the consensus that the Watermelon Festival ticket prizes will remain the same.
The April meeting will have an election of officers for the 2026-27 Lions Year. The slate of officers was named within the Governance Report and will be announced at the April meeting for approval.
Lion Jim Jones reported that the Lions sponsored bus to see “Guys and Dolls,” at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on April 18, is filled and all arrangements have been completed. He also thanked the Lions Club for their Power of 100 donation and noted that this year 104 community minded individuals have joined forces to help their neighbor in need, in a time of greatest need.
It was announced that the Zone Meeting will be held at Jim Falls on Friday, March 20 with Lions Dave and Patricia Jankoski and Lion Jim and Sheryl Jones attending.
It was noted that the next regular Lions Meeting will be held on April 13, at Debbie’s on Broadway. Lion Russ Jensen’s name was drawn to receive this month’s attendance award but he was not present to receive his winnings.
