The Stanley Lions held their monthly meeting on Monday, March 8, at Debbie’s on Broadway. New owner, Debbie Haas was introduced to the Lions in attendance and thanked for her willingness to continue to host the monthly Lions meeting. Prior to dinner being served, a moment of silence was observed in memory of Lion Dean Boie, who was remembered for his outstanding service to the Stanley Lions Club. The business meeting followed a delicious meal of beef tips.
Following secretary and treasurer reports Acting President, Dave Jankoski reviewed the visitation from the District Governor on February 8. The attendees then went into a discussion regarding the club’s support of the 2021 Chartering of Boy Scout Troop 50. After discussion, approval was for paying the $765 rechartering fee. It was suggested that a member of the Boy Scouts attend a future meeting and share what being a part of the local Troop means to them.
It was announced that the Zone Meeting will be held at Jim Falls on Friday, April 17. The 27-E1 District Convention will be taking place on Saturday, March 27. The one day convention, starting at 9 am and ending about 2 pm, will be virtual. It was voted that because of COVID, the Lions Brat Dinner prepared for Country Terrace residents will again be cooked and delivered to the facility this year.
The attendees then went into an extended discussion regarding holding the Lions Annual Watermelon Festival. Pros and cons of holding this year’s event were discussed, as were the various activities held in conjunction with the Festival. Also discussed were the holding of an alternate event. In the end, it was voted to proceed with holding the 2021 Watermelon Festival, with the possibility of some changes that will be explored.
Prior to adjournment, Lion David Winkler was recognized for his continued efforts to open the door of Lionism to new members. Lion Dave received a Centennial Membership Award from Lions Club International. He was presented a Diamond Centennial Award by Acting President Jankoski.
It was also noted that the next regular Lions Meeting will be held on April 12, at Debbie’s on Broadway. Before adjournment, Lion Adam Smit’s name was drawn for the attendance award and he was in attendance.
