Stanley Police Department to purchase new squad

Posted

The Stanley City Council approved the purchase of a new 2025 squad vehicle for the Stanley Police Department from Courtesy Truck and Auto in Stanley, replacing the current 2020 vehicle, which will be auctioned. During the March 3 Council meeting, the council approved the purchase of the 2025 Ford vehicle for $43,920. Police Chief Lance Weiland explained that he had received two quotes for vehicles, with Courtesy being the more affordable option at $43,920, compared to Ewald Chevrolet’s quote of $44,638. As the council discussed the proposed vehicles, Alderperson Jacob Huff asked Chief Weiland for his preference. “Let’s give them a shot,” Weiland responded, referring to Courtesy Truck and Auto. He noted the advantages of working with a local business that has been supportive of the City of Stanley. Additionally, Weiland explained that if the council chose the vehicle from Ewald, they would need to purchase all new equipment because it is a different model than their current squad vehicle. By selecting the Ford from Courtesy, the department can transfer much of its current equipment to the new squad, resulting in significant cost savings. Weiland also shared that the 2020 squad vehicle had been serviced at Courtesy multiple times recently to address issues with the rear differential. He stated that parts have been ordered and once the new parts are installed, they will “hopefully have the issue rectified once and for all.”

Employee Wage Increase
After a short, closed session, the council approved wage increases for three city employees. Streets and Grounds Foreman Joe Schmitt’s hourly rate will increase by $3.00 to $30; Wastewater Operator Nick Martin will see a $3.00 increase to $34 per hour, and city employee Jacob Lukes’ hourly wage will rise by $3.00 to $31. These new wage rates will take effect on March 24, 2025.
