The Stanley Police Department is once against doing its annual food drive. Stanley Chief Lance Weiland shared more on the long running initiative and how people can donate:
“We have been doing the food drive annually since 2018. In 2019, we decided that anyone that made a monetary or food donation to our drive would be able to nominate a person/family they thought was deserving of a free holiday meal. Donations for the meals are received from various donors throughout the area and that money is then used to determine how many meals can be purchased (at $60 each). We then try to split the number of meals equally between the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas and work with Hansen’s to coordinate purchasing all the meals and we then either deliver to those selected or they can pick everything up at Hansen’s IGA.
All non-perishable food items collected during the drive go to the local food pantry. Any money collected as part of the food drive, we use to by hygiene and other type toiletry items, which also get donated to the pantry.
Over the first 5 years we have been doing the meals, we have been able to coordinate 125 meals for families and have donated over 4,000 pounds of food and other items to the pantry.
Donations can be dropped off at city hall/PD during normal business hours.”
Together, we can help alleviate hunger in the Stanley-Boyd Area.
