The ice was thick with the temperatures cold but tolerable, as the Stanley Sportsman's Club put on its 16th Annual Ice Fish – ing Contest on Chapman Lake Saturday February 19. Starting the day out at 10:30 a.m. and running until 3:00 p.m., the yearly event saw Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Perch, and Northern Pike all reeled in from under the ice by contest participants. Anecdotal evidence from conversation said mostly small fish were biting, while the prize board showed many large specimens on display.
With a cash prize raffle held in addition to the fishing contest and St. Joseph's Lunchbox used to serve food, those who helped make the event a success included Jim's Shady Nook Resort, Bill's Hill House, Boyd Catering Service, Advanced Auto Parts, Steve's Lube Supply, Oemig's Sport Shop, Hansen's IGA, Half Way Bar, Martino's, Hazuga's True Value, Debbie's On Broad – way, Stanley Bar and Bowl, Cindy's in Thorp, Curve Inn Bar, Derk's Farm Meats, Folczyk's Sugar Bush, and Michael Troyer.
All proceeds from the event are used to enhance and care for Chapman Park so that it might be enjoyed on the part of all.
Check back next week for a list of prize winners.
