Final score 35 -2 Mondovi in away game

Sometimes a young team, just needs more time and experience to shine.

A super motivated opponent who lost in an upset the year before, doesn’t help. Coming away from Mondovi 35 – 2 in the Buffalo’s favor Friday, the away game for the Orioles was a chance to learn—and reflect. Oriole head coach Jeff Koenig shared some thoughts after the game.

Mondovi is a good football team,” he said of the opponent Stanley defeated at last year’s homecoming matchup. “We need to work on playing with a lower pad level and keeping our feet moving on contact.”

As to the game details, Mondovi scored first, the Orioles left doing what they could to play defense and block extra points, which they did.

Starting with the kickoff at 7 p.m., the Orioles returned the ball upfield for a few yards before a turnover and touchdown by Mondovi with 9:19 left in the first quarter left things 6-0 in favor of the Buffalo.

The followup kick no good, the score remained 6-0 as Madden Mahr took the return upfield from the Orioles 2-yard line, making 15-yards for a first and 10, followed with more turnovers and scoring by Mondovi. The Orioles were able to utilize Simon Polman’s powerful kick, but to little avail as the score sat 20-0 with 5:44 left in the first quarter. Switching out the quarterback to relief arm Carter Isenberger and holding off the Buffalo charge as best they could, the final score coming out 35 -2 Buffalo.

The Orioles next play Osseo-Fairchild at home September 23, the kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Oriole Park.
