Why Jesse James for State Senate District 23?

I was born and raised in the Eau Claire area. I am married to my beautiful wife, Vicki. We have four beautiful children and my wife and I love being “Lolli-Pop” to our two granddaughters.

In 1990, I entered the U.S. Army. Upon serving honorably, I came back home and entered the U.S. Army Reserves as a medic, 397th Engineer Battalion in Eau Claire.

Upon returning home from the service, I entered the workforce and graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in 2001 with a degree in Police Science. That same year, I started as a- partEtime- officer- with- the-Spring Valley Police Department, the Elmwood Police Department, and the Altoona Police Department. I was hired full-time with the Altoona Police Department December of 2002. I worked up the ranks and was promoted to the role of investigator and served as a member of the SWAT team from 2003-2011. I became acting police chief of Altoona in 2011 and was appointed- as- police- and- firechief in October 2013.

In November 2018, I was elected as a State Representative for Wisconsin’s 68th Assembly District. Serving the 68th has been one of the greatest honors of my life. I am serving as the Chair of the Substance Abuse and Prevention Committee, Vice-Chair of the Family Law, member of the Children and Families, Corrections, Criminal Justice and Public Safety, Mental Health, Small Business Development, and Veteran and Military Affairs committees.

I was appointed as a member of the Wisconsin State Council on Alcohol and other Drug Abuse (SCAODA) and am a graduate of the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) program. I have recently been appointed to the BILLD Steering Committee. I have had the opportunity to see several bills I have authored signed into law relating to law- enforcement- officersDmental health, and protecting our kids.

I will continue the work in the areas of mental health, alcohol and other drug abuses to include meth and fentanyl, two common drugs we battle in our families, and protecting our children in our schools and communities. I love being the only active law enforcement-officer-in-our-statelegislature. I proudly back the badge and those who serve as policeD-fireD-mvSD-correctionsand dispatchers.

I am excited to serve the 23rd District as your next state senator.
