Name: Nate Otto
Age: 43
Office Sought: Assembly District 68
Education: Masters in Public Policy, Humphrey Institute, BA in Political Science, UW Eau Claire
Other Background Details: I am a software developer who adjunct teaches at Chippewa Valley Technical College. I grew up in Eau Claire, spent a few years in the Twin Cities and returned to the Chippewa Valley to raise a family. My wife owns Otto and Steiner Law Office. Together we are raising two children. I am also an outdoors enthusiast and author of the plywood boat building book, “Your Fifty Dollar Kayak”, published in 2019.
Why Nate Otto for the 68th Assembly District?: I am the moderate option. As a member of a business owning family, I experience the struggles that business owners face. As a parent, I make the tough choices parents must sometimes make. As an educator, I respect our hard working teachers. And I know that my opinions are sometimes wrong. The Democratic Party is sometimes wrong. I am passionate about restoring abortion rights, rural broadband and housing affordability. But above all, I am passionate about having a conversation with people who disagree. They might be right about something I overlooked. This is why I believe a legislator is first and foremost a listener.
On what issues do my opponent and I disagree? My opponent opposes abortion in cases of rape and incest. I believe the best way to reduce abortion is to keep it safe, legal and regulated. My opponent opposes recreational marijuana legality. I support recreational marijuana legality. My opponent believes churches need to eventually take over Medicare and Medicaid. I believe in the US Constitution and the separation of church and state.
I am running to represent all of the people of the 68th Assembly District.
