Season’s Greetings from the library! Please read on for all the latest news from the D.R. Moon Memorial Library. The library board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5PM in the lower level of the library. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend. If you are unable to make it to the meeting, you can find the updates I share with the board each month here.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our book sale in November. Either by volunteering to set up and take down the books or by patronizing the sale and giving Cheryl’s collection new homes, you all made the sale a success! We made over $900 in the sale, which will directly benefit the fund for the building project.
Programs coming up this month include Storytime on the 15th, Coffee Clutch on the 16th and the Creative Writing Guild on the 20th. We are also once again participating in Light Up the City, hosted by the Stanley Community Association, which is running until December 19th. You can vote online here: https://forms.gle/aGCpVqTVzaajzwf36. This month our book club is reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, and will meet on January 5th at 2PM. Check the website or pick up a calendar from the library for the full details on our programs.
I would like to close out the year of library facts by reporting the best fact of them all: we have a wonderful community who cares for and supports our library! You are the reason we are here and we appreciate each and every one of you. Earlier this year we participated in a “Library Love Story” campaign to collect stories from the community regarding the library. I wanted to share just a few words from the many warm and supportive responses we received. One patron wrote, “I am always impressed by the many interesting and special things and events that are organized at the library. You can truly see the thought, effort, and care that has gone into library programs. I’ve had so many wonderful experiences because of this library!”
Another patron wrote a beautiful account of her own childhood experiences at the library and now coming back to the library with her daughter, “When I became a mother, I couldn’t wait to bring my daughter here!! She was just a couple weeks old the first time I brought her…We absolutely love having this treasure here in Stanley. When I sit back and watch her playing and reading, I can picture myself and my siblings in the exact same spot doing the same thing.”
Finally, last month library staff were nominated for (and won by unanimous vote!) the High Five Award, courtesy of the Stanley Community Association and Martino’s owner Ron Haas. The award recognizes D.R. Moon Public Library Staff for “dedication to excellence” in serving the community. Thank you all!
The library is open for you Monday through Friday from 10AM-6PM. Come in any time to use the computers, find a book or movie, borrow a Wi-Fi hotspot or iPad, or use our printer to fax, scan, and copy. We are also offering curbside pick-up to those who wish to use that option and home delivery for the elderly and home-bound. Please note that the library will be closed December 23rd and 26th for the Christmas holiday and December 30th and January 2nd for New Year’s. Wishing you a holiday season that is merry and bright!
