Happy July everyone! I hope you all are staying cool as we head into the heart of summer. Please read on for the latest library news and updates I share with the library board each month. The library board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 5PM in the lower level of the library. The meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
Summer is a busy time for us all, and the library is no exception! We are excited to be ouering in-person activities and events for our summer learning program, Oceans of Possibilities. Additionally, we have fun digital programming through Page Turner Adventures, available now until September! This month we are hosting an afternoon for flying ocean creature kites on Thursday, July 14th, and seashell decorating at the library on July 28th. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our end of the summer ice cream party on August 11th! If you haven’t registered yet at stanleylibrary.beanstack.org there’s still plenty of time to participate in the program and earn free books and cool prizes! For all the details, go to stanleylibrary.org/summer-program.
Other programs coming up include Creative Writing Guild on the 19th, and Storytime and Teen Creative Writing Guild on the 21st. The book club is currently reading The Boys in the Boat and is planning to meet on August 4th. Finally, the Explore MORE passport program’s last day is this Friday, July 15th. Thank you to everyone who participated in this new program, it was great to see visitors from across the library system! Check out our website, or pick up a calendar from the library, for the full details on current programs.
This month’s library fact comes from to our programming statistics for 2021. Last year, the D.R. Moon Library ouered 113 total programs. These included in-person programs, live virtual programs, digital programs, and drop-in programs. The total estimated attendance for our programs in 2021 was 601 attendees, 496 of whom were children.
You may have seen a notice from the library for A/E firms and an article about the current status of our building project in the paper last month. If you are interested in getting involved as we move forward with the expansion and renovation plans, please talk to me about the library committees for the project or consider joining our Friends of the D.R. Moon Memorial Library. All are welcome to join our Friends group and help the library reach more people in the community. Thank you to everyone who has worked hard to build up our Friends group over the past year, your euorts are greatly appreciated!
If you need a place to escape the heat this month, the library is open for you Monday through Friday from 10AM-6PM. Come in any time to use the computers, find a book or movie, borrow a Wi-Fi hotspot or iPad, or use our printer to fax, scan, and copy. We are also ouering curbside pick-up to those who wish to use that option and home delivery for the elderly and home-bound. Thank you for your support and see you soon!
