The Stanley-Boyd Cross Country team hosted their home meet on Saturday, September 12. The event was altered in several ways in response to the ongoing pandemic but was still able to be held and enjoyed by many area runners. The event that normally includes 10+ teams on a Thursday afternoon was changed to two waves of 3 teams each on a rainy Saturday morning.
Top male for the Orioles was Lukas Milas in 19:57. Other boys were Zach Haas 20:36, Travis Christoph 20:51, Troy Trevino 21:23, Joey Henderson 24:36, Nathan Gully 28:16, Dale Sayles 28:54, Chris Marion 29:03, Zack Boes 33:59, Isaac Peeters 40:43.
Janelle Schesel led the Orioles girls in 24:38. Other girls were Alexa Lisnewski 27:01 and Jade Fredrickson 33:33.
'It was nice to get the teams together and be able to have a race. We would normally have had a scrimmage and a race already but they were both cancelled, so this was our first race of the season. Getting a race in makes running those hard practices a little easier for the kids to stomach. It also lets us know how we compare to other teams' coach Nick Mahr reported. 'The kids ran well and had a good time despite the rain and the changes to how we ran the meet.' The Orioles' next race is held at Altoona Elementary School on Thursday, September 17.
