Former Boyd resident Thomas Plass, 71, passed away Sunday December 29th, 2024, after a short illness.
Thomas was born January 31, 1953, in Chippewa Falls to Leo & Helen (Dietzler) Plass. He resided in Boyd, attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Stanley-Boyd High School. He graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and after graduation he joined P&H Harnischfeger, a crane manufacturer in Milwaukee. He excelled in repairing customers’ large cranes on site which led him to many exciting “adventures” throughout the Americas.
He and wife Jean enjoyed their house in Salisbury, NC and taking boat rides on Rock Lake. They also enjoyed traveling the world, especially researching the Pyramids of Egypt. They even traveled to San Antonio, Tx to visit his brother when a renowned Egyptologist gave a lecture there.
Tom is survived by wife Jean and three brothers Charles, Jim (Pat), & Steve (Penny), brother-in-law Maurice (Debra), sisters in law Ann Costello, Mary Ellen McEwen (Thomas, deceased), nieces and nephews Michael (Heather), Bryan (Miriam), Jeremiah, Zach McCarty (Amanda), Alexa Bach (Eldred), Nathaniel, Amy Larson (Kurt), Kevin Costello, Jeffrey Kumbera, Andrew Kumbera and Bradley Kumbera. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salisbury NC on January 6th. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Summersett Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
