The Thorp Area RC Club has continued to make some good forward progress! The club is now officially listed with the Academy of Model Aeronautics! This gains us a LOT of access to benefits, potential funding, events, a national listing, and a whole lot more! Our club nights have been on Sundays, starting typically around 5 p.m. One of our new members comes down from Ogema, and has larger planes and warbirds. And our VERY newest member is right here from the Withee area!
On Saturday, July 11th, I was able to go to the Hobbyland Fliers Annual Fun Fly event! We got there early at 10 a.m., and the turnout was great! There were somewhere between 50-60 people there, and more kept coming! There was a large variety of planes there, with a number of flights taking place. They had everyone from younger children to the older adults, most of which were RC pilots! Their club President, David Williams, and his club, made it easy to come and spectate! I also learned that people came from hours away to attend this event!
There was also another event in Durand on the 11th that I was unable to go to. But they will be having a larger event coming up on August 21st and 22nd, called Warbirds and Classics over Buck Knob. This event will focus on models of warbirds and other classic planes, and draws a crowd from hours away!
Meanwhile, here in Thorp at the Marshall RC Park, we are discussing a fall event, but we aren’t certain about it quite yet. Please watch our Facebook page at Thorp Area RC Club for more details! We invite everyone to feel free to come out and check us out on Sunday afternoons! We start by 5 p.m., and sometimes are out by 2 p.m., depending on how nice it is for flying. We do have a flight instructor available and a training airplane for use. If you have cars, trucks, and or boats, feel free to bring them out and utilize the park! We would LOVE to see you there!
